I’m grateful to have had the opportunity of sitting down with the folks at VoyageMinnesota to chat about how we got started in digital marketing and what our path of getting to today looked like. Thanks for swinging by and I hope you enjoy!
Devon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Taking it back to college, I went for a major in marketing and minor in Spanish. I chose marketing because I liked the opportunities, creative processes and was obsessed with the what it took to build a strong brand, but had also always been passionate for the Spanish culture with an interest in doing business in Spanish speaking countries. Plus, if all else would fail, my plan z in life was and still is to move down to Mexico to become a beachside bartender.
I began applying for internships my freshman year in college, not for a paycheck, because I already had a couple of jobs on the side, but solely to grow my experience and to gain real life knowledge in the workplace. Unfortunately, most of the companies that I applied to that had somewhat of challenging marketing internship opportunities didn’t have much interest in a freshman with minimal marketing experience at the time.
Faced with what I felt was a major obstacle, I came up with a solution – and it was beyond crazy if you asked my parents at the time; start a clothing brand. As a broke college kid I chased my passion to start a business that was in an industry that I was also very passionate for, it was a low investment startup business opportunity that I could build from the ground up by putting my knowledge of marketing and branding to the test.
This is where it all started for me – I had built a pioneer brand in the Minnesota Watersports industry, which opened many doors to people asking for help with marketing for their businesses. So, I pursued the passion that started it all and launched REV Branding Industries.
